Popular Metaverse Platforms

When creativity meets with the profound curiosity of what the reality is precise, a new world begins. A world pretty similar to ours in some ways; however, it does not feel like home somehow. Is the Metaverse just a Beta version of one of those massively multiplayer online role-playing games such as World of Warcraft or a new gate to a dimension in which we will feel the pure factuality in time? Do you remember your first Facebook login? It was awkward, complicated and miraculous at the same time. Nobody could imagine how it would penetrate our lives and silently become a part of it. In this aspect, Metaverse reminds social media of an entire 90’s generation. Our generation is already lost in the chaotic speed of technology; thus, we can be the ones who believe most in the augmented reality of Metaverse. Because we have already stepped into one from a natural solid world with no cell phones or internet even.

How many Metaverses exist out there?

Most of the answers have hung in the air when it comes to Metaverse. Not because it is the new guy in the village, but because our minds are struggling with the idea of a complete copy of lives. One of the most anticipated questions about Metaverse is whether there is only one Metaverse or not. The answer is a No! There is a myriad of Metaverse projects being operated. To be precise, at the time of writing this article, 160+ companies have already rolled up their sleeves to create their very own Metaverses. You may think the rivalry is the pillar of quality and success, yet, many people are pretty perplexed as to which Metaverse to choose to begin with. Naturally, they want to invest in the platform with the most innovative approach and brightest future. We have itemized the leading facilities under limelight below:

Decentraland

Decentraland was founded by two Argentinians, Ari Meilich and Esteban Ordano, in 2015. When it was launched two years, parcels of virtual land sold for about $20, whereas its native token, MANA, was priced at $0.02. As one of the leading and promising open-source 3D virtual world platforms, the company opened to the public in February 2020. Today, every single coordinate is called LAND in the Decentraland Foundation, and all these LANDs are limited. However, the community may make a consensus to create more land through Decentraland DAO (a decision-making tool for LAND and MANA holders). In this perspective, Decentraland resembles Athenian Democracy in many ways. The ones with wealth have more elective franchises than random residents. Being the oldest Metaverse platform, Decentraland enables users to place 3D models in the space using a drag and drop builder tool. At the same time, it provides an SDK tool to generate interactive content for professionals. Moreover, users can easily import 3D models into Decentraland and code advanced animations, games and applications.

The SandBox

Many of us were familiar with Sandbox as a space trading and combat video game with a gameplay element enabling the user a great degree of creativity to interact with, generally without any predetermined goal, or instead with one that the player sets for themselves. It is considered a perfect blend of SimCity, GTA and Elite, yet the creators have already expanded the limits since these games. Today, it is shifted into Metaverse with a local currency, SAND. Its vivid and lovely Mega City is designed by multiple leading names in the entertainment, gaming, real estate, finance and film industries. Every land here is the same size, and residents can combine theirs to generate bigger spaces. Like Decentraland, the lands are limited in Sandbox and sold through auctions. If you are willing to possess land here, you can purchase by SAND currency available on Binance.

Somnium Space

Despite the other two, Somnium Space is a home for all players in one massive world rather than players divided into sub-servers or mirrored-instanced rooms. Maybe the most accurate concept in terms of Metaverse. It was presented to the public in September 2018, and since then, it has become the most demanded Metaverse in the industry with the most lavish budget.

Somnium Space is an open-source platform providing users to own digital lands, homes, buildings, and myriad in-game assets in its own online platform. Consisting of 5,000 land parcels unevenly divided into distinguishing plots along with a map, Somnium Space inner circle also releases new lands once in a while. Its currency is an ERC20 token named Somnium Space CUBEs. Another great plus of this Metaverse is being available through VR, PC and Web, which is usable even on mobile. Therefore, it is also the most comprehensive and sustainable one compared to others.

Apparently, Metaverse, the ideology of being in Metaverse, is here to stay. No matter which platform you visit or which Metaverse currency you have been stocking, we will all visit this other dimension one day. Maybe as many futurologists esteem and emphasize repeatedly, the Metaverse is the next stage in our journey began as a hunter-gatherer. After all, we human beings have the superpower of adaptation to any land, even though formed by pixels and avatars.
